Old Sheet + Table = MAGIC

It's raining in Cincinnati today, so Soren and I have been finding fun things to do inside.  We did some painting and some reading.  Then, we decided to make a tent out of and old sheet and our table and chairs.  We turned out all the lights, got as many flashlights as we could find and sat in the tent telling spooky stories.  We even created our own lantern with flashlights, rings and play food.  Check it out:

This is the magical tent lantern.  Those are peas on the top.

Next, we added a sleeping bag and pillow:

We are using our imaginations and whatever we can find around the house.  We didn't buy a tent.  We made one.  We didn't buy camping gear.  We dug Bill's sleeping bag out of the attic and grabbed a pillow from Soren's bed.  We pretended things were other things.

I remember doing things like this when I was little and it was so much more fun than playing with store-bought stuff.  You have to get creative.  You have to solve problems.  You have to USE YOUR BRAIN.  The best part is watching your child start to feel the magic of pretending.  Soren made up his own stories and they were pretty interesting!  He's at the age when make believe feels very real.  We can all be that age.  All we need is a sheet, a flashlight and a little imagination.
