To love is to teach and to teach is to love.

On the last day of school, my son's teacher put the following letter in our boxes. I've included the entire letter because it is so worth sharing. The article he references was also included in our box. It is called 'Experiencing The Moment' by Maren Schmidt, author of Understanding Montessori: A Guide for Parents

Dear Parents,

Study this one very carefully. It is the best one of all. Read it several times. Save it as a guide to parenting. It is the essence of what parenting and teaching is all about. It says what love is. To love is to teach and to teach is to love. Loving your children is not just giving them hugs and kisses and saying "I love you" to them. Don't throw this article away. Keep it handy so you can read it when the parent/child relationship goes awry. It will bring you back on course. You have to work as hard as Annie Sullivan. It is your job to teach the children you produce, not the school's. Watch the movie, "The Miracle Worker" and read the book. Helen's parents had no idea how to teach her. You are your child's teacher. There is no substitute for you. My job is to teach you how to teach (love) your children. JUST DO IT. If you don't know how to do it, learn now. This article is a great start.

Love,
Edward
